i-Series
Now you can rent the Segway™ Human
Transporter i-Series by the day, week, or month. We ship Segway™
rentals anywhere in the USA. Developed at a cost of over $100
million, the Segway™ is a revolutionary, high-tech,
battery-powered, self-balancing transporter with a top speed
of 12.5 MPH and a range of up to 15 miles per charge. Segways™
are extremely powerful, maneuverable, safe to operate, and
they produce zero emissions. On-board computers keep the Segway™
perfectly balanced and responsive to the rider's intuitive
command movements.
The Segway™ HT i-Series is the basic
model in the Segway™ line. It offers maximum range,
speed, and maneuverability with its large tires and powerful
batteries. It is primarily a “human-only” transporter,
and was not designed to carry large amounts of cargo.
However, an optional handlebar
bag available for rental does allow the i-Series to carry
roughly 10 to 15 pounds of tools, parts, equipment, papers,
or whatever else will fit into it.

Maximum Speed &
3-Key Operational System |
All Segways™ come with three, color-coded,
electronic keys, which determine the top operational
speed of the transporter. The Segway™ can be
automatically set for one of three different top speeds,
depending upon which key is used to power up:
|
|
Beginner Key
(black):
Maximum speed: 6 mph
Slower turning rate
Sidewalk Key (yellow):
Maximum speed: 8 mph
Medium turning rate
Open Environment Key (red):
Maximum speed: 12.5 mph
Most responsive turning rate |
 |
|
Range |
The estimated range of the Segway™ i-Series
on a single charge averages 10 – 15 miles, depending
upon travel conditions, surface conditions, and driver
weight. This is much farther than the average user
would travel on foot in one day. Under challenging
conditions, such as hilly or variable terrain, with
many stops and starts, maximum range could be as low
as 5 miles. Under ideal conditions (flat surface,
minimal wind, constant speed), ranges of over 15 miles
have been achieved.

|
Turning Radius
|
Zero. All Segways™ have the amazing ability
to literally “turn on a dime” –
a feat no other vehicle can duplicate. The Segway’s™
two wheels have the ability to independently turn
in opposite directions, thus allowing the rider to
turn in place without impacting any nearby person
or object.
|
 |
|
Payload |
The Segway™ i-Series will accommodate a driver
weighing up to 250 lbs. maximum. The minimum recommended
driver weight is roughly 100 lbs. (Small children
SHOULD NOT be allowed to operate a Segway™.)
A handlebar bag
is available for rent with the i-Series as an accessory.
It provides roughly 10 to 15 pounds of cargo capacity.
|
 |
|
Dimension |
The platform upon which the driver stands measures
19” deep by 25” wide (no wider than the
average person’s shoulders). The platform elevates
the i-Series driver’s head by 8 inches, which
is helpful when dealing with crowds or supervising
workers. The Segway™ was designed to take up
no more space than the average person. The handlebars
may be set to a minimum height of 40 inches, and a
maximum height of 49 inches. When the handlebars are
fully lowered, the Segway™ will fit into most
car trunks.

 |
|
Weight |
The i-Series weighs 83 lbs. Its shipping weight for
rental is always greater, due to the weight of the
shipping case, plus any accessories
that may be rented.
(Cargo Version 95 lbs.)
|
 |
|
Power Supply |
The i-Series is powered by two, 60-cell, NiMH (Nickel
Metal Hydride), plastic-encased, battery packs mounted
under the foot platform. They can be recharged using
a standard power cord (included with all rentals)
and outlet. Any AC outlet rated at 90 to 260 volts
and 50 to 60 Hz will work. A complete charge cycle
takes 4 to 6 hours. Extra battery pack sets can be
rented as accessories.
|
 |
|
Safety |
All Segways™ are built utilizing an engineering
concept known as “redundancy”. As a result,
both the electrical systems and balancing systems
are built with redundant safety features. Segway’s™
redundant engineering means that if any system begins
operating at reduced capacity, there is another identical,
“backup” system programmed to take over
its functioning.

 |
|
Durability |
Aircraft-level design standards were built into all
Segways™. Physically, mechanically, and electrically
all Segways™ are built with the finest materials
and components available. The Segway™ is a very
serious, highly reliable, high-quality piece of electronic
equipment.
|
 |
|
Power Assist Mode |
All Segways™ can be placed in “Power
Assist Mode”, which allows the transporter to
be moved up and down stairs or curbs WITHOUT the driver
on it. The Segway™ WILL NOT negotiate a set
of stairs or a curb with a driver riding it. Upon
encountering a set of stairs or a curb, the driver
simply dismounts and switches the Segway™ into
Power Assist Mode. He/She then uses a control on the
handlebar to engage the motors and tires to assist
in moving the Segway™ up or down the staircase
or curb.
|
 |
|
Anti-Theft Measures |
To help prevent theft, each Segway™ comes with
its own unique set of keys, encoded with a 64-bit
security ID, included in the rental price. There are
also openings in the fender and wheel that can be
used with a variety of security devices, such as cable
and bicycle locks. Kryptonite cable locks can be rented
as an accessory from
Rentex.
